German Design Award 2018

Four of Kati Meyer-Brühl’s designs win awards

The armchair grace bungee cross and the armchair and stool libellule were honoured with a “Special Mention”. The armchairs and sofas embrace and the armchair grace bungee won awards in the “Winner” category. The prizes are awarded by the German Design Council.

The armchairs grace bungee and grace bungee cross are both based on a light, understated design that consists of a delicate metal armchair frame and a linear, removable seat and back. Bungee cords have been used on the armchair frames as accent details on both designs: grace bungee cross features a woven net of horizontal, vertical and diagonal cords and grace bungee single horizontal cords. The armrests are also covered in bungee cords, which has a padding effect.

Unlike grace, the armchair libellule is dominated by organic, decorative shapes – it features a round seat base and garland-shaped decorative stitching, a high, wing-like backrest and a soft, removable headrest pad. Optional castors, also available for the stool, also make this design easily movable.

With the sofa embrace – already a highlight at this year’s furniture trade fairs – Kati Meyer-Brühl has managed to create a design whose extremely contemporary yet also eye-catching look is complemented by conversion mechanisms that can be comfortably activated at the touch of a button. Depending on the version, the backrest can either be fully lowered or lifted. The matching armchairs also come with this option.

These now award-winning designs perfectly illustrate the wide spectrum of Kati Meyer-Brühl’s capabilities. The designer is brühl’s Creative Director. In her work, she combines a light handed, distinctive design language that resonates internationally with maximum quality, sustainability and environmental compatibility standards.
