German Design Award 2020

German Design Council awards prizes to three designs by Kati Meyer-Brühl

The ultra-flexible sofa system airy, the graceful high back chair libellule princess and the upholstered benches belami high are some of the most outstanding designs of 2019: airy and belami high in the “Winner” category, whilst libellule princess has been honoured with a “Special Mention”.

The innovative design airy removes the boundaries between the different zones in the home and combines relaxing, sleeping and socialising in a new, wonderfully uncomplicated way. The various sofas, armchairs, stools and benches can be grouped together to create a wide range of different furniture constellations – and rearranged at any time. A highlight in terms of functionality is the flexibility of the backrests. They can be adjusted from a completely horizontal to a vertical position and also allow varying seat depths as well as backrest heights.

belami high is soft architecture: it divides rooms and creates refuges, but also sociable spaces. The high, enveloping rest elements also ensure perfect privacy for relaxation – whilst sitting back comfortably, supported by upholstered elements and cushions. Two shorter benches, each with a rest element on only one side, are ideal for those wishing to use belami high as dining seating.

With its curved armrests and decorative seams, libellule princess was evidently inspired by nature and the Empire style. The extravagant, extremely comfortable high back chair is an unusual accent piece suitable for any interior, but looks just as good combined with other furniture. Optional castors ensure mobility.
