Three Iconic Awards 2016
75th Design Award for Kati Meyer-Brühl
Kati Meyer-Brühl’s 2015 designs grace, poem and muskat have been awarded the label “Iconic Awards 2016” by the German Design Council.
The grace two-seaters and armchairs and the wingback armchair poem won a prize in the “Winner” category; the muskat two-seaters and armchairs won recognition in the “Selection” category.
grace and muskat are distinguished by a high degree of design transparency. They combine a minimalist, graceful frame – for grace in metal, for muskat in wood – with a surprisingly comfortable seat that comes along in leather or leather and plywood for grace and is fabric-covered for muskat. Individual design details add an inimitable character to each of these two designs.
The armchair poem reflects the concept of a wingback armchair but intentionally breaks with the traditional characteristics of this piece of furniture. For example, the armchair rests on a swivel base with an integrated tilting mechanism, rather than on feet; the wings are only subtly indicated and the design of the armrests is totally innovative – or they are even left out altogether. In addition, the covers are removable.
The German Design Council awarded the Iconic Awards 2016 to mark the imm cologne 2016. With this new competition, the Council hopes to encourage a closer relationship between the areas of architecture and furniture design.
